Mittelstadt and Krimmel Named 2025 ‘Name That Book’ District Champions
Elementary and intermediate students battled it out this month for a shot at being named “Name That Book” 2025 District Champions. This district-wide competition celebrates a love of reading among our students and encourages them to practice their discipline, reading, and leadership skills.
In the end, it was our Mittelstadt Patriots and Krimmel Knights who came out on top after a fully booked day of fun and friendly competition!
"My Name That Book experience has been nothing short of incredible. From the moment I joined, I was met with kindness and a sense of belonging. This team has not only strengthened my reading and retention skills but has also introduced me to friendships I’ll cherish forever,” Krimmel Name That Book team member Myatnoe Aung said. “Name That Book pushes you to grow as both a reader and a person—it’s a choice no one ever regrets. My friends and I have worked so hard every year, and receiving that trophy is such a fulfilling moment."
Shoutout to our second-place elementary team from Frank and the third-place team from Mahaffey.
The Krimmel Knights were ecstatic as they were handed their first-place trophy. Right on the Knights’ trail was our second-place team from Doerre, and following closely was our third-place team from Kleb.
“Mittelstadt Librarian Nia Sestak and Krimmel Librarian Caroline Williams are two outstanding school librarians that dedicate themselves to fostering a love of reading among their students,” Program Coordinator of Libraries Meredith Derrick said. “Creating engaging book club experiences and deep discussions led their teams to triumph and the ability to take home the first-place trophies. Their achievement exemplifies the power of passionate teacher-librarians who shape lifelong readers and critical thinkers.”
Here’s how the competition works. (We hope you have the spine for it!)
Over the year, our bookworms read 25 books of various genres from cover to cover. They sit in a team huddle at the competition and listen closely as a quote is read. Then, they work collaboratively for 30 allotted seconds in order to "NAME THAT BOOK." Once the timer beeps, the team captain holds up their team’s chosen book title that they believe the quote came from.
We would like to extend a special thanks to our families for supporting our students’ love of reading and our librarians, teachers, and administrators for serving as trusted coaches throughout this process.
This event also celebrates the legacy of the dedicated and innovative librarians who founded Klein ISD's Name That Book Program in 2013 at Eiland Elementary, Epps Island Elementary, and Nitsch Elementary. The program was expanded to intermediate campuses in 2019.
